How To Make Green Beer

March 17, 2009 by James 3 Comments

Happy St. Patty’s Day!

I love this holiday because it’s one of the few days it’s okay to be a raging alcoholic or to pretend to be Irish which is basically the same thing. Another St. Patty’s day tradition is drinking green beer. Unfortunately, you can’t buy green beer at the local Quickee Mart. In light of this fact I pulled out my McGuyver manual and found out how to make my own green beer.

How To Make Green Beer

It’s actually pretty easy. First, you have to buy some beer. I recommend a lighter beer since green Guinness just looks gross. Pour the beer into a glass and add a few drops of green food coloring to make it as dark or light as you want. Stir, drink, and enjoy having a green tongue for the rest of the day. Yep. That’s it. If you can’t pull this maneuver off then your either Irish or too drunk.

I used to get green beer by combining beer with mint liquor. Yes, it kinda stops being just beer… but it tasted pretty good :)

And it increases the alcoholic degree, way to go!

It seems rather weird to do to me, but I guess it could work. How did this become a tradition over there anyway? I don’t think they do it in Ireland.. (Not sure though)

Saint Patrick’s was awesome as always btw, the one time a year I go nuts with Guinness :D

For the record…blue food colouring works too!!

I have no green food colouring and was just about to get out and buy some (thus delaying my drinking) but those Grade 2 primary colours came through!

Only put in a drop or two and as long as your beer is light enough (read yellow enough) then it makes green most excellently!
