The British Bulldog

By James 4 Comments

When I think of Gin, the image that comes to mind is a bunch of old British guys with bad teeth driving around in Austin Healeys. This is probably the vision most people think of which is probably why some say Gin is dead. Well, boys and girls, I’m here to tell you that one company has successfully created a Gin that embodies the uber-cool rocker side of London. And it’s probably one of the best tasting and most mixable I have ever tried.

You can rest assured that I’m a bit of a seasoned Gin drinker. Gin and I go waaaay back to the days when Snoop sang about rollin’ down the street smokin’ Indo’ sippin’ on Gin and Juice laid back with his mind on his money and his money on his mind. So yes, I’ve sampled a bottle or two over the past 15 years.

Not only does Bulldog Gin stand out from the crowd when it comes to taste and mixability, but the packaging is also awesome. It’s a short, fat, black bottle with a spiked collar around the neck. Just like a little bulldog. It definitely stands out on the shelf next to Beefeater and mega-brand Tanqueray. Oh, and did I mention hangovers are non-existent with this stuff? This is one of the cleanest alcohols you will ever drink.

This spirit is branded as an ultra-premium Gin and will cost you anywhere from $30 to $33 at your local retailer, or you can get it online at Wine Chateau for about $25. I lucked up and found it at my neighborhood store for $11.49. The owner said it wasn’t moving very well so he was selling it cheaply to get some people to try it. Fat chance. I bought the last 4 bottles on my way home today :)

Here’s a cool video of the founder of Bulldog Gin on the show “The Big Idea.”

Nice review. While gin definitely isn’t my liquor of choice, the bottle alone does perk my curiosity. The whole no hangover thing can justify some merit. I mean come on Sasha, have you really never woke up the next day, after pounding out a drunken night, with no hang over at all? Some hangover effects can be eradicated by drinking a higher quality booze.

No hangover….. my ar@#. You must work for the brand that or you’re not drinking enough. All booze gives you hangovers, it’s one of the defining characteristics of alcohol.

    Sasha,

Because you’re my first legit comment ever I’m going to first say thank you for reading, and then give you the benefit of the doubt for not knowing the epic level of my alcohol tolerance when it comes to getting hangovers. I mean seriously, I write for a blog about drinking. Give me a little credit. I don’t work for any brand (I actually work for Grooveshark.com) and when I test a new liquor either I kill the bottle or it kills me. But thanks again for reading. Tell your friends:)
