I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it before, but to pay the bills I work for Grooveshark.com. That means pretty much everything I do every day revolves around music. So really it was only a matter of time before I did a post about music. I thought long and hard about what angle to take. Then it hit me like the shits after drinking the water in Mexico. I sifted through the dozens of Grooveshark playlists I’ve created over the past two years and found one of the very first playlists I ever made. And there in the title was the answer. “Drinking Songs.”
Now I contemplated making the title of this post, “Greatest Drinking Songs of All Time,” or “The 10 Best Drinking Songs Ever,” but I knew that the greatness or even worthiness of a drinking song varies from person to person. That’s why I just decided to share with you MY favorite drinking songs. Notice I didn’t say “Party Songs.” That’s a different post altogether.
In my opinion, a true drinking song isn’t one that makes you want to go out and drink. (That’s a party song.) A drinking song is one that you listen to WHILE drinking. I know these are drinking songs because I was shit faced when I made the playlist. They’re the ones you and your buddies know word for word. They actually mean something. In my case they remind me of different periods or moments in time growing up. And by growing up I don’t mean as a kid. I mean really growing up.
They remind you of bar fights, hay field parties, waking up in some strange apartment some random morning where everything on the fridge is written in Spanish and not remembering where you left your car.
These are my favorite drinking songs. If you like them you can go to the Grooveshark widget page and get the widget. The name of the playlist is “Drinking Songs.”(by James) If you want to make your own widget you can go to Grooveshark and add as many songs to a playlist as you want and put it on you Myspace, personal web page or wherever strikes you. This playlist could be a lot longer, but I like to queue it up in Grooveshark and hit autoplay. Sometimes it finds songs I forgot about.
And yes, I know the first song is a new song. I just added it. You never quit making drinking memories :)

Thank you so much, this was a good read. I was actually born in Madrid (I’m not telling you what year though!) but moved around various parts of europe and finally settled in England when I was 6. I dont remember an awful lot of the few years I was in spain, but the smell of spanish food always seems to get me going or something. It’s weird how I dont remember anything except the smells, isn’t it! I actually found a website dedicated to spanish recipes, which gave me great delight and thought I really should to share with your readers. Anyway, thank you again. I’ll get my son to add your website to my rss app…

I think the best drinking song is,”I’ll Never Forget The Night I Can’t Remember” by Lettuce Party.

Cool list. Good point about the “really growing up” times in life. I guess everybody has a song and a drink for those times.
