Ah Longboard Island Lager. Let me just say what a great name for a beer. Puts me in just the right mindset–I can just imagine myself sitting on a beach somewhere, beer in hand with my feet propped up, without a care in the world.

Full Disclosure: I’m writing this post at the local Panera a solid two hours after downing Longboard Island Lager along with several slices of DiGiorno, slow-rising crust pizza in my girlfriend’s apartment.

Now James told me beforehand the company that brews Longboard Island Lager also brews several other “island” beers. So I checked out the Kona Brewing Company’s Web site to find out a little more about this sexy Hawaiian beverage. According to the Web site, a typical Kona beer is a “complex, full tasting beer with a relaxed style and charm that expresses its Hawaiian roots.”

Fair enough. But what does that taste like?

I’ll tell you what it tastes like–it tastes like a damn good summer beer. It’s light and refreshing enough to drink outside by a pool or at the beach, yet bold enough to drink with a variety of foods (DiGiorno pizza included). It’s taste is pure having been brewed using the basic ingredients of malt, hops, yeast, and water and it’s got a great pour, beautiful color and a fantastic aroma.

If you’re not into the Bud Light Limes and Miller Chills of the world, but still want a beer that makes you feel like you’re at the beach, I’d definitely suggest a Longboard Island Lager. If its “complex, yet relaxed style and charm” don’t win you over–maybe the good life just isn’t your style.
